Storytelling is the oldest form of education. Giving advice and conveying something in the form of a story is quite an interesting method. The most effective way is to read aloud. If you are going somewhere and before leaving, you ask your child to pick up a book and finish reading it by the time you return, when you return and ask him what he read, the child says that he didn’t understanding any of it, the reason being tricky vocabulary, difficult theme, complex words and complicated contents of the book. So, sometimes this happens. A book is in fact like a treasure chest for a child. It is similar to a closed chest or a closed door. It requires the correct key to decode it. And when the same book is read to the child by the parents or teachers, then obviously, they understand the child’s level of comprehension.
They simplify the difficult words and the child instantly grasps the purpose of the story. That way, moral of the story may have more impact. And it also improves the listening skills of the child. Remember that in this competitive digital era, the improvement and development of listening skills is immensely necessary. And in this era of modern technology when there are latest gadgets, mobile phones and tablets in every child’s hands, when a father or mother reads a story to the children, they listen attentively and it develops a special bond between the children and the parents. A great way to do this is that whatever special event there is in every Islamic month, we should focus on that event. Stories from the life of Sayyiduna Imam Husain رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ should be read to children during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram. During Rabi-ul-Awwal, they should be informed about the blessed life and characteristics of the Beloved Prophet صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم. During the month of Safar-ul-Muzaffar, we should talk about A’la Hazrat. That way, you can train your children.
